closer

Time draws near to race day. I was really burning out on the running last week/week before. I struggled to get to my long runs (even missed one of my long runs), struggled to get out during the week and hated most steps I took.

I also felt good and proud and well after each run... it was just a matter of getting through it.

This Sunday I ran 22 KM. I ran the ING Half Marathon route with Doug and Lynne. Lynne was recovering from bronchitis and I wonder if she should have even been running. Doug was his usual self - it almost seems effortless to him and I envy that. He kept us entertained with chatter through the run - lots of encouragement. He is an incredible person and I feel so blessed to run with him.

So - my time for the run was 2:40 and change. Doug says I should be able to do the half in 2:30. I don't know. I just want to finish my first half... times and speed they will come later. Plus I am running in Calgary with my mother who has been taking her training very slowly because of hip pains. I would rather encourage her to finish than worry about my own time.

Tonight was another clinic night. I am now officially a group leader for the next half clinic. I'm really excited about that! I love encouraging people and hearing people's stories about why they run so I hope I can positively influence others the way I have been by my group leaders.

I am really looking forward to this race now. And the race in Edmonton. I feel better. I don't feel like I did at 20 K where I knew if I stopped I would just half to sit at the side of the road and cry... nope... I'm going to do it.

Erp... I also registered for the Coronation Triathlon in May. Initially after the burnout weeks I said forget it, the bug hit me at Kinsmen tonight and I just plucked out the credit card. I said my 1K swim time would be 35 minutes, I also had to disclose what age I would be on race day...

29

So this means I need to get into the pool for some long workouts. This Saturday I plan to go and get wet. I hope we don't have to throw in speed sessions to the swim this weekend. I find I fail miserably at them. I think my endurance and form aren't quite ready for speedwork in the pool.
