Sunburn Saturday

Ok. I missed a spot on my hand and at my shoulder blades today. Big ol' rookie mistake and I'll have an uggggly burn line to prove it.

But the good news. I went out on the bike for 4 hours today. This means I'm already training much harder than 2006. Some observations:

1. Shifting is very important. Knowing when to shift and how to shift and how to maximize your pedal stroke will save time. I'm pretty good with hill shifting. I'm not so good with hill recovery (that's a muscle thing). As with all things there is lots of room for improvement.

2. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to staying aero. I feel the bike zig zag a bit and get nervous. The last hour of the ride I was pretty much sitting up straight but that was because of #3.

3. Bring enough liquids for the ride. 4 hours and two water bottles was not enough. I forgot my nuun tablets in the car and I just plain ran out of water at 3 hours. At one point I though seriously of a) biting my arm and drinking my own blood or b) drinking my pee. I was THAT thirsty. I mean those are weird random thoughts you have when you're on your own and every car that passes seems like a mean jerk who won't hand you a water bottle.

4. I have work to do - and time is running out. But I'm excited about doing the work.

Ok. Tomorrow is Woody's Half Marathon. It was my big idea and now my husband is up in our bed moaning about being too tired to run. I don't know if I should push to motivate him or encourage him to stay home. For now I'm just letting him rest - we'll see what he says in the morning.

I'm just running tomorrow to finish. It's not chipped time and I hate seeding myself at the front. It's bloody hot - I just want a nice long run so I'm looking forward to it.
