thinking about $$, goals, sore neck

Last Saturday swim for this go around of tri swim club. I registered for the next batch which starts in mid-April. I'll have to keep my weekly swims going. We swam 3.6 KM's in drills. My neck on the right side is killing me. I could barely turn it last night. A couple batches of ibuprofen and I'm alright... still.... ouch!

I pretty much figure - looking at the numbers - that it's a lost cause for the GWN tri this year. I feel pretty sad about it - but there's no chance my number will come up on that wait list. It's really O-K but then I start cruising around and find that there is another half iron in July in Sylvan Lake. It's not full... but since I'd be registering late the cost is close to $300 and my wallet is looking a little thin. Sighs.

So I really have to make a plan for this summer. I don't want all of this swimming to go to waste and I'd like to do at the very least another triathlon after the Coronation. There are lots of options and I just need to find one and make it a goal.

I'm still planning for IMC 2007. Not giving up on that dream yet.

How about this half ironman - http://www.chinookhalf.com/

It's in Calgary. A friend I know did it last year, I can ask him what he thought about it. It's around the same time as GWN and it's only $145 before June 1. It does mean travel though.

That looks good too - can you ask your friend what he thought of it? The price is definetly in my range and travel to Calgary is doable.... thank you so much for the link!!

You've given me some hope!

Kerry - I almost registered for that half and then I saw that they have no cancellation policy - you don't race - no refund. I know that's not all that unusual but a lot of the more expensive tri's seem to have a rollover option.

I'm leery - but still keen. Did you find anything out about it?

Sorry I didn't post back earlier. I did ask him what he thought about it and he said it was a smaller race and there were a few organization problems (he got lost on the bike and ended up doing an extra 10km), but overall it was pretty good and he would do it again.
