where did the time go?

Where to start? Training is going well. I ran the full Coronation route last week 8K without walk breaks. My friend Lynne came along and we were both pretty pleased with ourselves for not having taken any walk breaks. It took us about 52 minutes so it was a good time considering the hills. The hill on the way back to the finish is going to be brutal. I just know it.

I have NOT YET ridden my bike. It's almost as if there is something mentally holding me back from going out. Fear? Yes, probably. I have been on the bike trainer twice last week but none this week. There is a 30k training ride for the MS bike tour on May 13th and I'm thinking it will be the highest mileage I will put in before Coronation.

Swimming is progressing well. Unfortunately I missed the Saturday swim (was tapering for 10 mile road race in St. Albert). Saturday they did 1K time trials and I would have really liked to know where I was at. The coach is going back to basics with the newbies on stroke, kick, body position and so I'm learning a lot more on this go around than the last. Hopefully it will make swimming more pleasant than it has been.

I ran in the St. Albert Road race on Sunday. I was lucky the night before to have met some people off of the runningmania site. What a great bunch :) I really was worried that I would not do well for the 10 miler but surprised myself with a time of 1hour 45minutes. The run was challenging but it made me stronger at the end and I will definetely do this race again next year.

I have to admit - I don't usually love shirts from events but I wear the St. Albert one almost every day at home because I'm so proud of myself :) haha!

My husband is gone this week and next week for work. He'll be back on the weekend - just in time for me to put in more swimming, biking and running before he's off again next week.

I really miss him when he's gone - I've managed to line up babysitters and the like but it's just not the same here without him encouraging me and my peace of mind knowing the children are with their father when I'm being all selfish and doing a long run or swim.

Oh well :) I think it must be 4 weeks or 5 weeks now to Coronation. I'm so excited!

PS - I have decided I will be going to Penticton to get my entry for next year. I got a confirming email from IMC that I will have to register myself.

I'm wondering if you are thinking that you have to do long distances right away on the bike. Would it help if you went out for an hour and didn't worry about the distance? (Or have you done that already?) I think the biking distances in the triathalons (or however you spell it) can be pretty intimidating when you look at it. I mean who wants to bike for 30K right away!!! LOL It sounds so far!

And don't think of it as being selfish being away from your kids - part of being a great person is to spend time on yourself. If it makes you happy to exercise then you should do it!!!

Thanks Heather. I probably will just try and get out on the bike before the 30 K training ride. Scratch that I will get out on the bike before the 30 K training ride (repeat mantra over and over again until I find my bike helmet).

You'll be fine!!! I know I'm going through my own self doubt, but one thing I've found is strong running does mean strong biking. My first ride ever last year was 35kms. 24km is around the hour mark (or less.) I'd invite you for a ride this weekend but I have a massage appointment at 12, so I'm going to try and get in a 3 hour ride before 11. Maybe next weekend we can go.

Way to go on 8km with no breaks!!!! I've never been able to do that. You're in great shape. You're going to kick some a$$ at Coronation, and then you get tell everyone you're a triathlete!
