Well - I found out yesterday I had a spot in GWN. I registered online as soon as I had the directions... felt incredibly happy, a rush of energy, a rush of fear, an emptying of my already thin wallet and new determination for training.
I had a run at lunch that completely sucked - only went 1.5 K and then turned around to walk home. It just didn't feel right and I wasn't ready to push myself. I haven't had a 'walk home' sort of run since last year so I figured one this year would be OK.
Yes, I know so now you ask me - what about a bike and a wetsuit? How are you going to train and fit in LIFE? The event is not that far away - am I ready? I honestly did not think I would get in. I hope that I won't make a fool of myself.
John goes away for 3 weeks in June. This means lining up family to watch my children - this is very important since my training will have to be maximized.
I know I can do the run portion tomorrow, I know I am about 4 weeks away from being able to do the swim portion, the bike scares me - do I have the guts, strength and conditioning to do the bike? No - not yet... but I'm gonna train like mad to get there.
So that's it in a nutshell. Swimming has been going VERY well. My coach has been going right back to basics on stroke development and it's improved my swim overall.
Plans for this coming week:
Saturday - long swim (1.5 hours), bike 30K
Sunday - long run (10K)
Monday - swim
Tuesday - run 5K tempo at lunch, 1 hour spin at night
Wednesday - long steady run 8K, swim
Thursday - 4K tempo run with clinic, spin 1 hour
Friday - Bike up and down Groat after work
Let's hope I stick to it.

Congrats!! At least I don't feel so alone :0) Have you looked at renting a wetsuit? I think it's about $50 and lots of people did that at Summerside last year.
Ummmm where is your rest? I know you want to train like mad, but make sure you train smart. You need rest to let your muscles recover or you'll just end up on the injured and that would be a real shame. Take care of yourself.
Maybe I'll have to switch out Friday for a rest and instead of spinning - take the bike up and down Groat after a swim.
I'm glad I got in - I go from excited to absolutely terrified in a span of an hour.
Now I think I better understand the fear you were experiencing.
That didn't make sense - I meant instead of spinning after a swim on one of those nights (Monday?) I could do a couple trips up and down Groat on that night instead.
Woo - this is difficult to plan!
